How To Upload Photos/Images To Our Archives
Here's how to upload photos:
1. When you login to the software, click on Write (just as you do to post a blog) and scroll down to "Upload."
2. Click the Browse Button to find the photo on your own computer. I know jpgs work… not sure about others.
3. I also know that there is a Size Restriction and though I've seen the warning message telling me the size is too big, I've never found the location to change that requirement, so for now we're stuck with it. I usually resize to under 400 pixels as my longest side, and then let the software show the thumbnail within the article but a larger version if someone clicks on it. I have better examples of this at http://www.StageMagazineOnline.com/reviews for the review of State Fair. Clearly photos larger than this can be uploaded, as is already seen on the site… but this is a good target.
4. Once the image is uploaded you will see some options and a "Send to Editor" button. I leave the options as Thumbnail and File (so that the image in the article stays small and the images stay "attached" to your article and are always available for you to add or take off later).
5. Clicking "Send to Editor" puts the code of the image into the on-site wordprocessor and will display your photo at the top. You CAN change the location of your photos within an article, but that will take more practice so it's best to leave them there for now.
OK…. now just to show you how to start an article in email and let people read it on the site, I've put this whole article on the site. Usually you publish an article, get the "permalink" code and paste it in the article at a key point so that people will read the beginning of your article and then transfer to the site to finish it. Then they may leave comments and we'll never lose all of the thoughts that usually would go back and forth in emails and then are lost forever.
Like the chatter about helping to fund TTII…. unless someone is really good at keeping old emails, most of that give-and-take will be lost. And certainly years from now NO ONE will know what people said because the emails are not available to them.
So… let's try it next time. Write your thoughts into the site, click on Permalink to get the code, and then go write a short email to "the list" which ends with the Permalink. People can read the article (even if they haven't signed up yet) and leave a comment about it. Great way to get all of this online archiving hopping!
And remember: always "sign" your article at the end. Several articles on the site only show the login of the person who wrote the article and that doesn't always tell your friends who you are. And if you want to include up to two links in your "signature file" below your name, go ahead… let us know what you are up to!
